Perphery: The cover building of CHUSONJI KONJIKIDO

The world heritage - CHUSONJI

 IWATE prefecture is located in the northern part of HONSHU Island JAPAN and faces the Pacific Ocean and CHUSONJI temple is in Hiraizumi city of Iwate prefecture. Chusonji temple was built in 1124 by KIYOHIRA FUJIWARA, who was a local lord of northern part of Japan at the end of Heian era(12th century). There are many cultural assets in this temple and KONJIKIDO is the most important asset.

Chusonji temple was designated officially as precious assets of world heritage this year(2013).
The builing on this coin is a cover building which is called Oido to protect KONJIKIDO against wind and rain damage(left picyure). The right side picture is KONJIKIDO. This building is 5.5m x 5.5m size and laminated with gold leaf.
